Climbing Rope Stool- Wood Selection

from $60.00

The Climbing Rope Stools are an original designs of afrayeddesigns. they are made using a mixture of classic woodworking joinery and modern brackets. If shipped they are intuitive to build but not as simple as big store furniture so expect some craftiness.

This project came from the question: “What should I do with old climbing rope?” and not really wanting a rug. I found some great creators doing some cool stuff with old rope! but that helped lead to the creation of afrayeddesigns.

Each is treated with Tung oil giving the stools excellent outdoor resistant, Though some woods are more resistant to the elements than others. (see Additional info)

They are made by me with a mix of hand tools and machinery out of a small small shop in twenty-nine palm each stool takes a day to make and the finish takes a week to cure.

Expected wait times are 2-3 weeks

About the materials

Douglas fir -Despite being lighter, Douglas fir is still quite strong and durable. It’s often used in construction and framing due to its structural integrity, which translates well into furniture that can handle wear and tear. Compared to some hardwoods like oak or walnut, Douglas fir tends to be more affordable. This makes it a budget-friendly option for those who want the look and feel of quality wood without the high price tag.

Walnut -The elegant and sophisticated appearance of walnut never goes out of style. It blends well with various interior design themes, from modern to traditional, making it a versatile choice for a range of furniture pieces. Walnut is a dense and strong wood, making it incredibly durable and resistant to wear and tear.

Mahogany - Mahogany is known for being stable, meaning it’s less likely to warp, shrink, or swell due to changes in temperature and humidity. This makes it perfect for furniture that needs to stand the test of time.

Cherry -Cherry wood is known for its rich, reddish-brown color that deepens and darkens with age, developing a beautiful patina over time. This gives cherry furniture a warm, inviting look that becomes more attractive as it matures. Cherry wood is a hardwood, making it durable and resistant to dents and scratches. Although it’s not as dense as oak or walnut, it’s still sturdy enough for long-lasting furniture that holds up well over time.

Maple - Maple has a fine, consistent grain that provides a smooth and even surface. This makes it perfect for furniture that requires a sleek, modern look, such as dining tables, cabinets, and chairs.

White Oak - White oak is known for its strength and longevity. It's a hardwood that can withstand heavy use, making it an excellent choice for furniture that will last for years. White oak also has natural resistance to moisture, which helps prevent warping, cracking, or swelling, especially in humid environments.
