How It Started

The woodshop started with a pile of discarded climbing ropes and a want not to waste. The house I live in now, and the location of my shop had been a house for many guides and instructors in the area for many years, and because of this piles of discarded gear had been left behind, for someone else to deal with. and during my free time, that person became me. Not knowing what to do with these piles I though away garbage and organized gear. but was left with an unknown of what to do with all these climbing ropes, these durable, long last pieces of gear had to find a new life. So I built a chair, it's still alive today, but it's a rough draft, not a consistent weave on the chair and uneven joints and legs. But the idea was there and eventually led to the Adirondack rope chair, a straight forward design using a jointer and no metal hardware. It was fun to make, sturdy and very comfortable. The problem was that it took three 60m ropes to finish the weave. people were interested, So the rope stool was created keeping the original idea alive but now half a rope will make you a chair. Right now this is as far as I have gotten, the design is ready.
